“We believe baptism signifies entrance into the household of faith, and is a symbol of repentance and inner cleansing from sin, a representation of the new birth in Christ Jesus and a mark of Christian discipleship.” The United Methodist Book of Discipline, Article VI of the Confession of Faith of the Evangelical United Brethren Church.
Baptism is the initiation rite into the Christian faith. It is a significant symbol in the life of the person, the families involved, and the entire church community. In our denomination, the baptism of infants and small children is encouraged. We do not believe that baptism must be done at any particular age, however. If you have a child you wish to be baptized at Fairfax UMC, the parent(s) presenting the infant or child for baptism should be practicing members of Fairfax United Methodist Church or be active in a church where they live. In order to make arrangements for your child’s baptism, contact Pastor Snow at the church phone number. It is preferred that the ceremony be a part of the congregational worship, but under special circumstances it may be performed at other times.
