New Sunday School Classes

6/13/2009 6:02:00 PM

Two new Sunday Morning Classes for Adults are being offered for the summer. beginning on June 28th at 9:30 am. Accept the faith challenge and stay connected to growing your faith over the summer through one of the following opportunities: -

Three Simple Rules: A Wesleyan Way of Living.
Life as a faithful Christian really isn’t so tough, is it? Sure, the bar is set high, but would we want it any other way? After all, we are trying to live our lives after the example of Jesus. We have a rule book or guidebook to live our lives, the Bible; however, we don’t all see the same things when we read it. We can get caught up in details like an eye for an eye or whether we should eat shellfish, or what happens when we turn the other cheek. John Wesley claimed that all of the guidance in the Bible came down to three simple rules. Bishop Rueben Job, author, will walk us through this simple alternative for faith development. The curriculum includes a short video followed by small group discussion and a wrap-up with the entire group. Bishop Job is a retired bishop of The United Methodist Church and one of the outstanding leaders in spiritual formation within the church.
Facilitator: Marty Draper

How is God speaking to us now in this world?
The NIV Standard Lesson Commentary will be used as the basis for scriptural text leading to lively discussion. The first session will explore Hearing God’s Call - Finding Protection. Scripture will come from Exodus and Hebrews. Moving into July, the theme will be Called to Be God’s People with topics as follows: Accepting God’s Rules; Remembering and Celebrating; Commissioning for Service; and Providing a Fresh Start. Scripture for these lessons will come from Deuteronomy and Leviticus in the Old Testament and Matthew, 1 Corinthians, and Romans in the New Testament. The format of the class will include the reading of scripture and discussion of how it relates to each of us in our lives today. Class members will have the opportunity to share their thoughts or simply ponder the comments of other class participants. Attending an Adult Sunday School class is a chance to connect in a small group setting with other Christians in order to encourage and enlighten your daily walk with Christ.
Facilitators: Ralph & Sharron Jones

Texts for both classes are available from Libby Barricks in the Resource Room.
