Services

There are 4 worship services at Fairfax United Methodist Church. Except for our 8:30 prayer service, all the services are in four parts: Gathering, Proclamation of the Word, Response to the Word, and Sending Forth. Gathering is a time of preparation and prayer as we begin to worship. Proclamation is the reading of the Word from the Old and New Testament & Preaching. We then respond with our gifts and give thanks for God’s mighty acts in Jesus Christ. We are finally sent forth with a blessing to be ministers of the Gospel message in our community. We hope you will try one of our services and find a style that works for you!

Time Service & Description
8:30am This worship service is a half hour Prayer Service. It will be a time where we come together to hear scriptures, pray for our community and our world, and share in the sacrament of holy communion. Communion will be shared every week. There is no sermon and very little music. This service is located in our chapel, directly off of our main sanctuary.
9:30am Our Traditional Worship Service is supported musically, primarily, by our adult chancel choir and the organ. We read all the lectionary readings for the day and there is a sermon. Communion is served on the first Sunday of the month.
11:00am The “New Traditions” Service is an inter-generational service that uses a variety of our musical ensembles to support worship. It varies in its use of multi-media and has a children’s message every Sunday. There is usually a bit more singing than our traditional worship and is a bit more casual than our traditional worship. There is a sermon and communion is served the first Sunday of the month.
5:30pm Our “Open Doors” Service is an informal worship experience. We urge you to come as you are. The service is led musically by our Open Doors band and uses multi-media regularly, rather than a hymnal or written liturgy. There is a sermon and communion is served the first Sunday of the month.
