Fairfax United Methodist Women

Who We Are

We are women of all ages who choose to move in harmony with other women for friendship, fellowship, and Christian growth.  We meet as a unit five times a year in the church or in a Circle (small groups) once a month.

We have a desire to support missions through study and work.  We undertake study of missions by featuring missionaries and mission reports in general meetings, and  through participation in varied events, projects, and issues of local and global significance. Each member pledges a sum each year to support global mission, and all participate in the Candle-Burning Observance, A Call to Prayer and Self Denial, and World Thank Offering programs at three general meetings. Our support takes various forms, i.e.:  assembling Kits for Conference, collecting items for Cuba, furnishing toiletries to the less fortunate; taking staple items to the Lamb Center; and adopting families for holiday giving. Twice a year funds for mission are raised by the sale of used children’s clothing, books, and other items at the Little Angel Consignment Sale.  Unsold items benefit such organizations as Bethany House, the Child Development Center and Rising Hope Methodist Church. Our study is enhanced by a Reading Program, utilizing the UMW Library materials purchased annually, and by participation in both District and church mission studies.

We promote friendship and fellowship through helping others in special need, prayers, providing meals, hospital and home visits, nursing home visits, and organizing funeral receptions

We foster Christian growth through devotions at each meeting, prayer groups, and Bible studies, as well as by all the activities above.

Each member is regarded as a person of unique value and can express her membership through attendance at meetings; intercessory prayer; meaningful community involvement; or accepting leadership responsibility.
