DESCRIPTION:The Fairfax Chancel Choir presents Mass No. 14 in C (The Coronation Mass) by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s. Composed in 1779\, The Coronation Mass is one of the most popular of Mozart’s 17 existing settings of the Ordinary of the Mass. This setting\, like the majority of Mozart’s mass settings\, is a Missa brevis\, or short mass which was premiered at The Salzburg Cathedral on Easter Sunday April 4\, 1779. It appears to have acquired the nickname “Coronation” at the Imperial court in Vienna in the early nineteenth century. (Childcare is available by reservation. DESCRIPTION:The beginning of the Lenten Season is marked by the imposition of ashes— a very special ritual. This is a practice that dates back to Biblical times. Jeremiah\, Daniel\, Job and others have found themselves using dust as a sign of repentance. The imposition of ashes is a way for us to be reminded of our own mortality and humanness in relationship to God. A pastor will be available from 6:30 to 9:00 am on February 22 in the Chapel\, right next to the Sanctuary\, for any who are interested in having the ashes imposed at the beginning of the day. We will also be offering a formal worship service at 7:30 pm that evening with the imposition of ashes. As Christians\, this service and ritual are an important part of our spiritual life and we encourage all members of the church to be here on February 22 for this important worship service.

Bharati Soman\, soprano\, lives in Falls Church\, VA where she maintains a private voice studio and teaches after-school voice lessons at Fairfax High School. Bharati was on the voice faculty at UC Davis for three years\, and taught privately in the Sacramento and San Francisco Bay Areas. Her students have been accepted to college voice programs including San Francisco Conservatory\, Elon College and Shenandoah University.

SUMMARY:Lectio Divina: Spiritual Reading
DESCRIPTION:Come before the start of Lent to center yourself for the journey. Lectio Divina is translated as “divine reading”.  It is a spiritual practice dating back to 220 A.D.  It is a time of reading (lectio) the Bible passage gently and slowly. Reflecting (meditatio) on the text of the passage and thinking of how it applies to one’s own life. Responding (oratio) to the passage by opening the heart to God. Finally\, listening to God (oratio). This whole prayer practice is learning to open the mind\, heart\, and soul to the influence of God.

SUMMARY:Hypothermia Week 
DESCRIPTION:Our week of sheltering this year is January 29 to February 5\, 2012. Volunteers are needed! Any adult (age 18 or older) is welcome to help so tell your neighbors\, friends and Sunday School classmates. We will need meals provided each evening\, breakfast supplies\, and snacks for the guests to enjoy in the evening and for packed lunches. We are using the on line sign up again this year  at www.SignUpGenius.com/go/fairfax8 and the password is “Winter”. You will be able to sign up for any of the volunteer positions and the evening meal sponsorships. The web site was great last year because you could see where the openings were\, who you were serving with\, and receive a reminder email prior to your night of responsibility. Children can participate by collecting materials for the guests or preparing snacks\, but they are not permitted to serve when the guests are present. Donations are also needed and are listed on our website\, which may be a way for families to participate together.    We anticipate needing:       40+ $5 cards to McDonald’s\, Dunkin’ Donuts or Subway (to be used on Sunday when the Lamb Center is closed)     Donations for bus passes ($15 per pass per week)     New adult undergarments for men and women; new socks; and gently used clothing or shoes.     As we get closer to our week\, we will ask for food donations (snacks\, fresh fruit\, brown bag lunch supplies\, breakfast casseroles).    FACETS is also collecting $25 gift cards to Target\, Kohls\, Walmart\, or Payless Shoes to help their clients who are in case management and actively looking for work or who are recently placed in housing.
