UMYF

United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF) at Fairfax UMC is a dynamic group of middle school and high school students who are committed to worshipping God, loving each other, and serving the community.  We meet on Sunday evening from 6:30-8:00 in the Youth Activities room at FUMC for an evening of games, food, and a conversation about what God is doing in our lives.

Throughout the year, we have opportunities for kids to get involved in service to others and fellowship with one another.  Here’s just a quick sample of Fall 2011’s big events.

  • Fall Kickoff – This is a great time to get involved with the UMYF crew.  On September 18th, we’ll ring in the new school year and preview the upcoming UMYF from 5:00-8:30pm in the youth activities room.  This is always a wild, can’t-miss time.
  • Summer Missions – Each summer, our youth group heads out into the mission field to serve the needy.  Our team is formed in early fall, and they participate in youth missions training throughout the year.  An informational meeting for the summer 2012 mission trips will be held on September 25th at 12:15 in the Fellowship Hall
  • Trunk or Treat – This fall we’ll be throwing a Halloween blowout called Trunk or Treat for the children of the church’s ESL students – some of whom have never gone trick or treating!  On October 26th, we’ll be hosting a party from 7:00-9:00pm in the Fellowship Hall and building a virtual neighborhood of cars in the church parking lot where these kids can go trick-or-treating.  It’s a great way to serve our ESL family and have fun, too.
  • Fall Retreat – From November 18-20 our students will be attending our Fall Retreat at Brethren Woods Retreat Center near Harrisonburg, VA.  Youth Fall retreat is a great way to escape from the school grind, make new friends, and rekindle your relationship with God.

This is just a sample of some of the things that are coming in the Fall 2011 semester.  Keep an eye on this page or contact Mike Hensley at mhensley@fairfaxumc.org for more details.
